Mark W. Howard, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in injuries and diseases of the neck and spine, certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and American Board of Spine Surgery. Dr. Howard has been in practice in the Monterey community for more than 30 years and utilizes the most advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques to return patients to a high level of function.
He graduated from the University of California Berkley and attended Harvard Medical School. After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Howard completed his residency in orthopedics and Fellowship in spine surgery at UCLA.
Dr. Howard is a member of the California Orthopaedic Association, the Monterey County Medical Association, the North American Spine Society, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His research has been featured in “Spine” and the “Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery” publications as well as others. Dr. Howard frequently presents on the topics of complex spine conditions and minimally invasive treatment options.
Dr. Howard has hospital staff privileges at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and the Monterey Peninsula Surgery Centers in Monterey. He is a consulting physician at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas.
